The FX Section is enabled via the Button at the top left of the FX Panel. The FX send Slider determines how much signal is sent from each Synth into the FX section. The mix between the effects section and the synth output is in the master section at the top right of the synth.
Routing: The routing supports Parallel mode plus every possible Routing combination (127). The FX names are abbreviated in the list as follows:
- Rev = SoundScaper
- D = Delay
- F = Flanger/Filter
- O = Organic
- RM = Ring Modulator
NOTE: The EQ and the Compressor are not part of the effects section as such and so are not included in the routing. The EQ is Applied After the FX Mix and affects the Dry Synth as well. The Compressor is applied just after the EQ.
Randomizes everything in the FX Section.
The Stereo Delay can either be Freeform of synced to the host BPM.
- Pan:
Selects the amount of stereo width, center is mono, full right is
left-right and full left is right-left.
- Feedback:
The feedback of the delays.
- Level: In
Parallel Mode this is Level, in all over Routing Modes this is the Mix
of the effect between dry and wet.
- BPM:
Switches between Freeform and Bpm timebase.
- Left: Time
of the Left Delay
- Right: Time
of Right Delay
- Dot: (BPM
Mode) Multiplies by 1.5
- DEFAULT -
Sets the Section to its default values
- RANDOMIZE -
Randomizes the most useful settings in the Section.
- Size: : The size/feedback of the Effect..
- Width: : The Stereo width of the signal
- Damp: : Damps/Dulls the signal over time
- Level: : In Parallel Mode this is Level, in all other Routing Modes this is the Mix of the effect between dry and wet.
- Mode: SoundScaper is programmed with 300 sets of timings for each of the combs/allpasses which can be selected via this menu, or randomly via the adjacent rand button.
- Style: Here the overall scale of the timings can be set between tight combs and vast delays, the names give a rough guide as to what to expect.
- Combs: Determines how many of the 8 combs are used.
- Passes: Determines how many of the AllPass filters are used.
- Freeze: When this button is active the sound currently in the comb buffers is frozen, input is passed straight through and the sound does not decay. Good for capturing a church bells like sequence much like Stever Reich's phase shifting technique
- DEFAULT: Sets the Section to its default values
- RANDOMIZE: Randomizes the most useful settings in the Section.
Organic is delay base effect, with modulation set to OFF it behaves like a Stereo Echo. When modulation is on the Mod Rate uses a random value to change the delay times at that Rate. Depth decides how large
the random number range is and Smooth smooths out the transitions to prevent harsh changes. In this way it is possible to create slight pitch changes as the Modulation happens much like Chorus. Organic is best used in conjunction with the flanger which creates an 'organic' undulating sound which is great for Pads. It is also more effective when the feedback is set to almost Full.
- Left: Left Delay Time
- Right: Right Delay Time
- Feedback: How much Feedback is applied
- Width: The stereo Width of the output.
- Level: In Parallel Mode this is Level, in all over Routing Modes this is the Mix of the effect between dry and wet.
- Rate: The speed of Modulation
- Smooth: How smooth the modulation changes the delay time.
- Depth: The depth of the modulation.
- MODULATE: Whether the modulation section is active.
- DEFAULT - Sets the Section to its default values
- RANDOMIZE - Randomizes the most useful settings in the Section.
NOTES: The Flanger LFO can also be used to modulate Organic as well as any Source via the Modulation Matrix.
The Flanger and Filter FX are interchangeable, only one may be used at a time. The unique LFO used by the Flanger/Filter has a selection of 150 custom shapes available when custom is selected, as well as a selection of more standard shapes.
- Rate: The LFO Modulation Rate when BPM Mode is OFF.
- Phase/Level: For the flanger this sets the Depth of the Flange, for Filter it sets the depth of the Filter Cutoff Modulation.
- Feedback/Resonance: How much the Flanger signal feeds back, or How Much Resonance the Filter uses.
- Level: In Parallel Mode this is Level, in all over Routing Modes this is the Mix of the effect between dry and wet.
- RingMod: Sends the Flanger LFO signal by this amount to the Ring Modulator. The button to the right enables this.
- Organic: Sends the Flanger LFO signal by this amount to Organic. The button to the right enables this.
- Waveform The waveshape of the LFO Signal.
- Filter Type Selects which filter is used by filter mode.
- Smooth The top list of the far right options is smooth which determines how quickly a custom shape transitions between each data point. When set to 31 the transition will be completely smooth. It is the same concept as smooth in the Modulation Sequencer.
- Custom Wave ID Selects a predefined custom wave from a selection of 150. Custom must be selected in the Wave Type selection box for this to be used.
- BPM: Selects between freeform and Host synced.
- Cmode: When switched off the custom shape uses the data to build the shape by changing the level of each point, much like you would draw a shape with the modulation sequencer. When switched on the shape is built by mixing sine harmonics which generally results in a much more complex and busy shape. Note that smooth has no effect when this is on.
- DEFAULT - Sets the Section to its default values
- RANDOMIZE - Randomizes the most useful settings in the Section.
LFO Routing
This allows the Flanger Modulator to be mapped to the Ring Modulator or/and Organic and the Sliders control the Depth. The button to the right of each switches this ON/OFF.
- Pitch: The Pitch of the Ring Modulator.
- Smooth: Smooths out the Custom Waveshape (see Flanger for details).
- Level: In Parallel Mode this is Level, in all over Routing Modes this is the Mix of the effect between dry and wet.
- Mode: Select between various Modulator Modes:
- Waveform: The waveform Shape of the Modulator Signal:
- CWave: If Custom is selected then this number represents which waveshape is used (see Flanger)
- DEFAULT - Sets the Section to its default values
- RANDOMIZE - Randomizes the most useful settings in the Section.
The Compressor is the last effect in the synth, and compresses the dynamic range of the audio above the selected threshold by the selected ratio.
- Threshold: Select the threshold between -60db and 0db.
- Ratio: Sets the ratio of the compression between 1 and 5.
- Release: Selects the release time in ms.
- DEFAULT -
Sets the Section to its default values
- RANDOMIZE -
Randomizes the most useful settings in the Section.
The 8 band EQ is the last thing the synth does before the Final Volume
Level and affects the entire synth output, it may be more efficient to
use the eq in your host, but it can be used to shape the sound as part
of a synth patch.
Drag the sliders to the desired level, Level balances the volume.
Double clicking resets the slider, CTRL for Fine Control.
