Modulation Sequencers

Astralis Modulation Sequencers

Astralis Synths have 2 Modulation Sequencers, MS1 is Polyphonic and MS2 is Monophonic, this page will deal mainly with the Polyphonic version which has more features than MS2.

The modulation Sequencers are used via the Modulation Matrix to modulate any available destinations. MS1 also has direct pitch sends for Synth1 and Synth 2 plus the option to use the Microtuner. There is also a secondary MS1 source called MS1 Raw which effectively bypasses the mode and smooth and so has a much higher range, both outputs can be used simultaneously.

MOd Sequencer Top

The slider bars dictate the value of each step in the sequencer, clicking will put the bar to the clicked position, hold CTRL for Fine adjustsments, dragging across the range will 'draw a shape' to work on one bar at a time Holld down the SHIFT key. double clicking will reset the bar to it's default. The bars can operate freeform or in stepped positions depending on which mode is selected.
  • RESET SLIDERS - Green button to the left will switch all to FULL or a subsequent click will set all to 0.
  • SHIFT LEFT/RIGHT - The Triangle buttons will move the pattern either left or right by 1 step.
  • DEFAULT - Sets the Section to its default values
  • RANDOMIZE - Randomizes the most useful settings in the Section.
Mod Sequencer Buttons
  • RANGE - Sets the keyboard range which the Modulation Sequencer will operate on, outside of that range will have no effect.
  • FLIP - This will reverse the bars, if RND Lock is ON, it will only reverse the active section, otherwise it will reverse the full range.
  • RND LOCK - Locks the random mode to only affect the active steps when using Randomize, Flip or Shift Range, otherwise they will all affect the entire range.
  • RETRIGGER - Restarts the sequencer  with each note press, this is usually best left on for most purposes especially in MS1
  • RANDOMIZE - Randomizes the sliders.
MS1 Options
  • TEMPO - Selects the current clock tempo for the sequencer.
  • STEPS - Decides how many steps will be used.
  • DIRECTION - Selects the play direction from the following:
    • Forward - Plays notes start to end and then restarts.
    • Reverse - Plays End to Start and the starts from the end again.
    • Random 1 - Selects a random value for each step, same notes can occur.
    • Random 2 - Selects a random note for each step, same notes won't occur.
    • Alternate 1 - Plays front to back and then back to front.
    • Alternate 2 - Plays front to back and then back to front. but plays the last note twice.
    • Arp 1 - Plays values in a zig zag fashion up and down the scale.
    • Arp 2 - Plays first value, then second, then first, then third etc....
  • MODE - Selects various play modes:
    • Normal - Sets the range to  full output.
    • Minus -  Full Output  but c
    • entre is 0 above is plus and below is minus.
    • Invert -  Inverts the output
    • Minus Invert - Inverts the output  but centre is 0
    • Octave 1 -  Limits to 1 Octave in range Unquantized.
    • Octave 1Q - Limits to 1 octave and locks values to semitone steps
    • Octave 1I -  Limits to 1 octave but inverts the values, unquantized.
    • Octave 1QI - As above but quantized.
    • Octave 2, 2Q, 2I, 2QI - As above but range is 2 octaves.
    • Octave 3, 3Q, 3I, 3QI -  As above but 3 octave range.
    • Fine 1 - 4 - varying degrees of fine control.
MS1 Smooth

Smooths out the signal by the amount of the knob, switch on by clicking the smooth button. The button to the right will enable  extreme mode, great for creating LFO style patterns.

MS1 Sends

These send the Mod Sequencer directly to the pitch, can be sent individuallly to Synth 1 and Synth 2. Microtuner will put the output through the current Microtuner patch for Microtonal Sequences.
